Wishing to pay homage to your best furry friend during your wedding? Sensational darlings! As the Studio's Top Dogs we have rounded up some of the top dog wedding-insights and etiquette to have your beloved pupper chuffed to paws!
Many couples have involved their pooch in their nuptials, apparently in more than one ways, flower dogs, ring-bearers, announcers, even bridesmaids, groomsmen or honorary guests. And although it is true we have that ability of making all of your guests come "awww" with how elegant and adorable we look, not all of us are ready to join your celebration (adoring you has nothing to do with it we assure you).
LOOK INTO YOUR PUPPER'S CHARACTER TRAITS BEFORE DECIDING ON THE ROLE TO ASSIGN THEM WITH ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
You see, some of us get quite excited with people and new surroundings. We like to sniff, explore, chew-up and well... steal treats -well not us two, but we're not judging (I'm looking at you Louie). Before you decide which part of your wedding we'll be the cutest in, make sure we are able to follow up with simple commands, won't be scared of crowds, won't make a mess, or chase the ducks in the pond. Who ever said you cannot teach an "old" dog new tricks? Well... we do! Trying to train us just a few weeks before the wedding won't guarantee success. What is more, consider your stress of the day - although we're pretty certain Sofia will make sure everything rolls like a breeze.
SIZE (AND BREED) MATTER
Not all events are made equal - are we right Teresa Viegas?- especially if your are planning a destination wedding. Depending on the location of your events and the formality level (not to mention the indoor, out-door & furry friend-friendly factors) some breeds and sizes will be a perfect fit, while others would be much happier to cuddle with you on the couch and watch the wedding video instead. A private estate, a lavish garden villa, or a Campo are better suitted venues for your pooch, while ballrooms are hardly the best choice. Breed also plays an important role, as our genetic inclination towards smaller spaces can make a wedding quite uncomfortable.
THE LOOKS
We do want to look our best for you, after all, it is your big-day we are here to bork for! Apart from taking us to the grooming salon before your wedding, try out any accessory quite a few times prior to the big day. Remember that to us pups "less is more" not only weight but also time-wise, so you might want to give up your dream of us wearing a bulky wreath or headpiece. Keep in mind that some blooms may be toxic -so better consult with Alice Mendes on that one.
SAFETY MEASURES PLEASE
Toxic blooms aside there are other factors that can compromise your dog's safety (and your piece of mind) during a wedding day. Some venues may have used pesticides on their pots and planted flora, which means safety for the plants but hazard for us. The same is true for several treats we may receive or... detect (again, I'm looking at you Louie). Ask your wedding guests, and vendors to refer from feeding us and allocate us a safe space to nap and feel safe when we are not attending an event.
A CALM BOI IS THE BEST RING BEARER
We know it. You know it we appreciate company (A LOT) and despise to feel anxious. We will also require to be walked, fed and looked after, a dog-of-honor nanny or a person we trust is handy, especially if they carry a pocket of treats to reward us. (Daaarling where is the bacon?) As natural born sniffers we'll wish to familiarize ourselves with the new location and your venue, to explore and get quirky. Perhaps a good idea to avoid any unnecessary bursts of enthusiasm on our behalf is to give us a royal tour of the wedding venue premises a day (or at least a few hours) prior to your events. We'll give you paws up and be quite obliging.
POOCH-INSPIRED IDEAS FOR YOUR WEDDING
We wwwwove it when your celebration includes nods to your beloved fluff, so even if circumstances are not ideal for us to attend Charlotte has some suggestions for you to consider: From a lovely display of pup-shapped sweet treats (everyone loves a cookie-dog or is it a dog-cookie?), and doggo-inspired escort cards, invites, cake decor, and even puppy crested wax seals, to cocktails named after your chappie, embroidered napkins or scarves as gift to the ladies with a canine-themed print and make your day even more memorable.
Now, as we like to have it after a good day's pa(w)lsy-walsy, it's time to boop the snoot with Sofia & João and call it a night!
