Our design inspiration was both the incredible venue and the Venetian rosebud legend which means – La leggenda del bòcolo di San Marco. The history of the rosebud, known as a Bocciolo, finds its origin in this Hidden Venezian Romance. In the second half of the 1800s, the Doge of Venice was Orso I Partecipazio. His beloved daughter Maria was desperately in love with a young and humble man named Tancredi. The Doge did not prove this particular young man good enough for his one and only daughter. To impress her father, Maria asked Tancredi to go to battle and fight for his country. Therefore they secretly married on April 25th 1868, right before Tancredi took her advice and rode off to battle. In the war, he bravely defended his country’s honor quickly went up in ranks. But at one fatal moment in April 1870, he got hit by his enemy and fell down his horse in a beautiful rose garden. Right before he passed, he handed his dear fried Orlando a rosebud, dyed in his blood, to deliver to his treasured Maria as a sign of his unconditional love for her. Maria went mad with grief and on April 25th 1870, the day after Maria received her Bocciolo, she was found dead in her bed with Tancredi’s rosebud pressed to her heart.
